The blanket begins with the centre square of squishy garter stitch worked in a simple stripe pattern. Then the feather and fan (old shale) edging is worked by picking up stitches around the centre square and working outwards in rounds in a stripe pattern that echoes the beautiful shading often found on hap shawls.
