And despite sounding like something that will keep you up at night, it’s actually a cozy and versatile accessory that converts from a cowl into a hat in just a few seconds. It’s also reversible- making it at least four accessories in one (though I bet you can come up with more ways to wear it!) The child’s size is best suited to young kids and those with short heads- the adult size will fit most older kids just fine! As written, it should fit heads 19”-22” easily.
Yarn: Child’s size: Malabrigo Merino Worsted, Pearl (worsted weight, 100% merino, 1 skein, 210 yards) and Malabrigo Lace, Sunset (lace weight, 100% merino, 1 skein, 470 yards.)
Adult’s size: Malabrigo Rios, Piedras (worsted weight, 100% superwash wool, 1 skein, 210 yards) and Madelinetosh Merino Light, Wren (fingering weight, 100% wool, 1 skein, 440 yards)
Needles: US size 7/4.5mm 16” circular needle and US size 6/4mm 16” circular needle OR size of needle required to get gauge.
Other tools: Darning needle for weaving ends, stitch marker
Gauge: 28 sts in 4 inches in ribbing in heavier yarn on size 7’s / 28 sts in 4 inches in stockinette in lighter yarn on size 6’s (gauge can be approximate- this project relies somewhat on stretchiness. Row gauge doesn’t matter, you knit to length.)
