Please wait...I named this cute, girly beret sincerely- it makes me think of fancy little pastries and sweet little pincushions… but now I can’t get that Smiths’ song out of my head* so I guess she’s got a touch of irony to ‘er as well. The brim is knit flat, diagonally, and seamed. The picot edging and main body of the hat are then picked up on either edge. The texture is a terribly easy mockcable pattern- no cable needle required!
*(that would be Bigmouth Strikes Again. “Sweetness, sweetness I was only joking…)
Yarn: 1 skein Malabrigo Worsted in Dusty (worsted weight, 100% merino, 210 yards)
Needles: US size 7 16” circular needles and set of DPNs (or your preferred needles for small circumferences) OR size to gauge.
Other tools: Darning needle, stitch marker
Gauge: 22 st and 32 rows in 4 inches in stockinette. Stitch gauge is more important than row in general, but row gauge is more important on the brim - you want enough rows available to pick up stitches in! If necessary, you can use differently sized needles on the brim.
